We are pleased to release our first Pinot Noir. Our search for a cool climate winemaker lasted for two years until we were introduced to Kent Humphry. Having grown up on Burgundy from the Cote du Beaune and Cote du Nuits, I was turned off by the thick texture and simple strawberry typical of Russian River Pinot Noir. I needed a winemaker who had the relationships to source from the best vineyards but also the palate to make balanced and table-friendly wines such as those from France. I interviewed a number of winemaking consultants and only Kent had the portfolio that delivered across all wines.
Our 2014 Pinot is a blend from 2 cool regions of the Sonoma Coast: Freestone and Russian River Valley. It leans toward the earthy darker red fruit spectrum rather than strawberry. This wine is complex and refined and leans toward the restrained style that makes fine red Burgundy so appealing. There is plenty of depth but no obvious oak or heaviness. Only 97 cases produced.

Just opened the 2014 Pinot Noir. It had great body and flavor. The color was ruby and the flavors outstanding. This will become one of my favorite Sonoma Pinots.

This is Blue Rock’s first release of a cool climate Pinot Noir and it is a very good one. Crafted by winemaker, Kent Humphry, it is a blend of grapes from Freestone and Russian River Valley. Aged 14 months in barrel, it is ripe and mouth filling in style with dark cherry flavors and hints of light toast. It has good acidity and balance, nice purity and a persistent finish. 97 cases produced.
