2015 featured a long and
cool growing season that produced small berries and modest yields. These
conditions favored our approach at Blue Rock where we strive for intensity
without excess weight, inspired by the best wines of Bordeaux. The vintage also
offered a tremendous example of what we can achieve through tireless efforts
over many months in the cellar, multiple blending trials and the ultimate
selection of only the very best barrels for our flagship bottling. Just
entering its prime drinking window now after nearly two years in barrel and an
extra year in bottle, this Best Barrels Cabernet will easily evolve in proper storage
conditions for another 15+ years.
WINEMAKER'S
TASTING NOTES
A rich and
satisfying deep red/blue hue without being inky black, the aromas of this
Cabernet instantly tell a story of pedigree and charm. 2015 benefited from
careful barrel selection so as to complement the refined style of the vintage
while providing all the lovely structure and layering offered by the best
French oak. An alluring mix of both red and black fruits are embraced in layers
of cacao, tobacco leaf, hints of leather, warm spices and vanilla, all carried
by a silky mouthfeel, wonderfully ripe and fine tannins and a finish that goes
on forever.
FOOD AFFINITIES
Cabernet
is recognized around the globe for its power, intensity and structure, making
it the ideal wine for filet mignon or other hearty cuts of beef or wild game.
Rich and flavorful cheeses are another natural match. Yet when made with the
deft touch so apparent in our 2015 Best Barrels, Cabernet can easily accompany
a much broader selection at the table. Roasted duck, chicken, beets, mushrooms,
braised cabbage and brisket, the list goes on and on.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Best Barrels has quite a serious, classically styled nose of cassis, warm plums and cedar chest with suggestions of pencil lead, bay leaves, lavender and violets. Medium to full-bodied, the palate delivers great purity and plenty of exuberant black and blue fruit layers with a plush yet firm frame and fantastic freshness on the finish.
