2015 Blue Rock Vineyard • Cabernet Sauvignon
91 Points- The Wine Advocate
Drink Date 2018 - 2029
The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon is medium to deep garnet-purple in color with quite a spicy nose of cinnamon stick, cloves and cardamom over a core of crème de cassis and plum preserves with touches of cigar box and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, the palate provides loads of black fruit and spicy layers, with a firm, grainy frame and lively backbone, finishing long and savory. 1,000 cases produced
The 2015 Blue Rock Cabernet is the
result of multiple drought years yielding a lighter harvest with smaller berrier and more concentrated flavors. This will be hailed as a great vintage.
Crafted from tiny Cabernet clusters that reflected the drought, the 2015 Blue Rock Estate Cabernet is 100% Cabernet
Sauvignon. It is aged for 22 months in 50% new French Oak and
50% once used barrels.
The wine offers depth and finesse without the heaviness of a typical high end California Cabernet. The aromas give up loads of perfume remindng us of blueberry, dark cherry and mixed dark fruits. The wine is soft and mouth filling with great structure, complexity and to complement the flavors of blackberry, cola and tobacco. The deep flavors are balanced with well endowed, but fine grained tannins. There is
excellent balance and a persistent finish. It is very approachable and ready
for either early consumption or long term cellaring.
The Blue Rock style is one of elegance
and restraint rather than heavy and highly extracted and weighs in at only 14.1%.
We strive for a wine that has a solid structure and lots of flavor, yet,
without the heaviness that one associates with many modern-day California
Cabernets.
