Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot, all from the best blocks at our
Blue Rock Estate Vineyard in Alexander Valley.
Winemaker's Tasting Notes
A pure and light-to medium-ruby robe, full without being opaque,
introduces this gracious Merlot. In perfect sync with its pristine
color, the nose radiates notes of violets, warm blueberry, dusty mocha
and hints of vanilla. A sip reveals flavors of bright plums, a blend of
blue and blackberries and a gentle sprinkling of cocoa. Offering
intensity without heaviness, present but relaxed tannins support a
medium to full body carried through the long finish by just the right
beam of acidity. A Merlot of distinction, it will reveal ever more of
its bounty with another year or two in the cellar.
Food Affinities
A particularly versatile vintage at the table, the key here is the
pedigree of your ingredients and a skillfully light touch on the sauces.
Elegant enough to accompany your favorite herbed chicken, turkey or
pork dishes, it will nonetheless stand stand proudly next to something
richer like beef, lamb or game. Plenty of freshness and lift also
guarentee a good fit for your favorite red sauce, so feel free to break
out the italian menu as well.
Ageability
The 2017 vintage has a reputation for early drinking pleasure, and while
that holds true with this wine, we feel it will enter its prime
drinking window in another year or so, perhaps just in time for
Thanksgiving of 2021. Beyond that, it will happily evolve in your cellar
for another decade and then some.

Winemake's Tasting Notes
A beautiful ruby color that could only belong to Pinot Noir
radiates through the glass and the nose follows it right up in spades. A
beguiling combination bright red cherry, fresh strawberry, freestone
forest floor, earth, rose petals and savory herb aromas tell you
immediately that this is a wine of complexity and precision.
Cascading flavors of cherry, tart raspberry, cloves and gentle
suggestions lightly sautéed wild mushrooms dance across the palate,
light and vibrant, with wonderful tannins and great acidity offering
structural support to the entire ensemble. This is why people go so
crazy for coastal Pinot Noir!
Food Affinities
With its captivating combination of fruit, spice, earth and herbs, this
wine will enhance a wide variety of entrées such as salmon, duck,
pork tenderloin or rack of lamb, whether they are accented with dried
fruit and wild mushrooms or exotic and fragrant spices. Lighter than
Cabernet Sauvignon, be sure the food is ready to dance with the wine
rather than overpower it.
Ageability
Approachable already, prime drinking may yet be a year away, so
decant for an hour or so if you want to enjoy it right away.
Otherwise, this Pinot Noir should evolve nicely for another 6-8 years,
quite possibly longer, under the right cellar conditions.

The clay terrain and temperate climate of northern
Tuscany favor the cultivation of olive trees that produce some of the
best oils in the world. That is why Blue Rock sourced cuttings directly
from Fattoria Bernadrdini, one of the world's greatest producers in
Lucca, Italy: to bring you oils unlike any other produced in California.
Our Estate olive oil is produced from a field blend of 4 Tuscan varieties; Leccino, Frantoio, Muarino and Pendolino.
The
olives are harvested by hand in the fall. They are pressed the day they
are picked with a traditional Italian mill to emphasize the richness
inherent in the fruit. We bottle in small batches throughout the year,
with the unbottled oil stored under argon gas to keep it fresh. Unlike
wine, olive oil is best the minute is it pressed. Our oil is rich and
creamy with a garden-fresh aroma and a blast of pepper in the finish. A
sediment is both welcomed and expected as it is bottled unfiltered in
order to retain its pundgent personality.
Use as a substitute for butter with bread. It is also a great condiment for fish, poultry, and vegetables.
