Blue Rock Alexander Valley Estate and Blue Rock's Gapstone Vineyard, Petaluma Gap
WINEMAKER'S
TASTING NOTES
Our 2023 Baby Blue Rosé is our only wine showcasing the combination of the Blue Rock Estate vineyard in Alexander Valley and our Gapstone vineyardin the Petaluma Gap.
Pinot Noir, the primary variety, makes up 46% of the blend and we used the saignee technique of bleeding off juice soon after crushing our Gapstone Pinot Noir. This ensured vibrant aromatics, fresh acidity, low color and no tannin extraction.
For the three varieties comprising 54% of the blend, we selected specific rows from our Blue Rock Estate and hand-picked these grapes early when the flavors and acidity were elevated. Though somewhat untraditional varieties in rosé wines, Petit Verdot, Syrah and Malbec bring riper, more red wine like nuances and a weight to the palate that perfectly complements the energy of the Pinot Noir.
Aromatics of tangerine, ruby red grapefruit, strawberry compote and bubble gum leap from the glass. The palate shows cranberry, raspberry and crushed rock. The finish is fresh, pure,
focused acidity and has a sweet-tart liveliness reminiscent of plum skin. Elegant and enjoyable
chilled on its own, yet supple and complex to pair well with an array of dishes. Truly a rosé for all
seasons!
FOOD AFFINITIES
Rosé loves fresh dishes with a light touch.
Fruits de mer, grilled fish, roast chicken, herbed olives, a charcuterie plate,
you get the idea. An easy and delightful combination that is sure to transport
your mind to an idyllic seaside table somewhere on the Mediterranean. It happens
to us every time.
AGEABILITY
Our Rosé is crafted for early enjoyment. That said, under
proper cellar conditions, our 2023 Baby Blue Rosé should develop nicely for
another 1-2 years.
