The clay terrain and temperate climate of northern Tuscany favor the cultivation of olive trees that produce some of the best oils in the world. That is why Blue Rock sourced cuttings directly from Fattoria Bernadrdini, one of the world's greatest producers in Lucca, Italy: to bring you oils unlike any other produced in California.

Our Estate olive oil is produced from a field blend of 4 Tuscan varieties; Leccino, Frantoio, Muarino and Pendolino.

The olives are harvested by hand in the fall. They are pressed the day they are picked with a traditional Italian mill to emphasize the richness inherent in the fruit. We bottle in small batches throughout the year, with the unbottled oil stored under argon gas to keep it fresh. Unlike wine, olive oil is best the minute is it pressed. Our oil is rich and creamy with a garden-fresh aroma and a blast of pepper in the finish. A sediment is both welcomed and expected as it is bottled unfiltered in order to retain its pundgent personality.

Use as a substitute for butter with bread. It is also a great condiment for fish, poultry, and vegetables.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

Cabernet Franc is the genetic parent of Cabernet Sauvignon, so it's no surprise that it shows characteristics of it. That said, it's also unmistakably itself, telling a tale only it can tell. Deep ruby in color, the aromas of dark cherry, bramble, pencil shavings and crushed gravel proudly announce that Cabernet Franc is in your glass. On the palate, red fruit flavors broaden to include bright currant, fresh strawberry and more cherry, seductively enhanced by signature dried herbs, cracked pepper and a rustic savory blend, all belied by a smooth body and beautifully integrated tannins. A stellar example of the grape and a standout in any lineup. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Food Affinities

Cabernet Franc's savory side invites gamey meats such as lamb, rabbit, duck and venison. Good acidity also makes it an appealing choice to pair with something like a baked tomato and goat cheese tarte. Incorporate fresh herbs and spices in your dishes and you can't go wrong. Olives, peppers, mushrooms, meatballs, beef stew, feta, lentils, even quiche.

Ageability

Decant for a couple of hours to enjoy now or cellar this beauty for up to 20 years. Prime drinking will likely begin in late 20.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

A pristine and deep ruby color, this Merlot is serious and noble, demanding a seat at the table alongside its more famous Cabernet brethren. 2021 produced wines of wonderful complexity and charm and this Merlot is no exception.

Brooding aromas of graphite, cassis, boysenberry and plum, fennel, cocoa, vanilla, cedar and tobacco leaf all work together to grab your attention. One sip and you instantly realize this is one to watch for years as it reveals all its layers. Loaded with ripe, structured bright berry and cherry flavors, the impressive fruit is enhanced by suggestions of black licorice, coffee bean, mocha and black tea, leading to firm yet rounded tannins that will support a long and glorious evolution in the cellar for years to come. While delicious and enjoyable now if decanted for a few hours, we suggest giving this full-bodied Merlot until Thanksgiving of 2025 to begin working through your prized stash.

Food Affinities

A wine or depth and structure, this Merlot is best paired with beef or rack of lamb, cassoulet, and game meats like venison and bison. Duck and Wild mushrooms, short ribs and chimichurri sauce, roast veal, or fillet mignon with peppercorn and red wine sauce would all be ideal companions as well.

Ageability

All the 2021 wines will age wonderfully for years to come. Unlike many earlier drinking Merlot, this beauty begs for another 2 years in your cellar before its official debut at the holiday table. Prime drinking from late 2025 through 2035. Graceful evolution through 2038 or longer.

There are moments when the deep ruby color of a red wine is about the most satisfying experience we can have, then of course we smell and taste the wine and things somehow manage to get even better! Our 2022 Baby Blue Red begins with polished aromas of blackberry, dark currant, pencil shavings, hints of peppercorn, tilled earth, cedar and vanilla bean that sing of an absolutely brilliant young wine. Not to be outdone, rich flavors of both black and red fruits, savory spices, hints of black tea and espresso, and just the right touch of toasty oak in the background suggest this beauty will enjoy a long and celebrated evolution.

Food Affinities
The most versatile of our estate wines, you can pair Baby Blue with just about any meal designed for a Bordeaux-inspired red. Grilled beef, lamb or pork are easy suggestions, but duck or chicken will do just as well. Hard cheeses, nuts and dried fruits will also go nicely if you are just snacking and sipping. But honestly, sometimes you just want a burger and this wine plays that game too. So listen to your desire and follow it wherever it takes you!

Ageability
As always, Baby Blue is intended for earlier drinking pleasure. That said, the 2022 is perhaps our most pedigreed version in a long while and will continue to age nicely for another 10+ years. Yet why wait? We certainly won’t! However, it’s comforting to know that this fine wine will stand the test of time if a bottle or two happens to get lost in the cellar.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes

Always a favorite for our winemakers to craft, it's also a favorite of all of us to drink. Medium to deep ruby in color and absolutely captivating on the nose, scents of blue, red and black fruits all intertwine over a backdrop of crushed rock, fire-roasted red peppers, and a medley of dried herbs. In the mouth, smooth and harmonious fruit flavors lovingly envelop your tongue. Perhaps most satisfying of all, from one vintage to the next, is the silky mouthfeel achieved through days of blending trials in the cellar. A crowning achievement of aroma, flavor and palate presence, we are especially enamored of the 2021 Right Bank Blend. We are delighted to say that we eked out a few more cases this year too. Still only a modest 190 cases in all, which won't last long.

Food Affinities

Your choices here are many. Red meat, game, fowl, mushrooms, in any configuration, with herbs, red wine reduction sauces and aged dry cheeses. For such a special wine, the key is to pick your favorite dish anywhere in this family and prepare it with love. Not as tannic as Cabernet or Petit Verdot, there is no need to overdo the fats on the table to achieve harmony; we have endeavored to present that in the glass right from the start!

Ageability

Alluring and oh so hard to resist already, we would still recommend decanting for an hour to enjoy right now. Otherwise wait until Thanksgiving of 2024 to bring these out from your cellar. We fully expect this wine to age effortlessly for 20+ years, but there is absolutely no reason to wait that long!

Rich and darker in color than you might expect fromMalbec, a beautiful perfume of black cherry and pomegranate, creamy milkchocolate and a hint of meaty rusticity that Malbec lovers so appreciate arecomplemented by notes of roasted coffee and sweet pipe tobacco. The wine tastesexactly like it smells, with flavors to match all those aromas perfectly. Silkysmooth, with wonderful balance and mouthfeel. While a recognized companion tothe other Bordeaux varietals, Malbec tells a story all its own and this is awonderful rendition to savor when you need something special. We have beenenamored of this wine since fermentation began and could not be happier withthe final blend. If only we had more of it!

Food Affinities

Smoky and spice-rubbed red meats are natural match with Malbec.Grilled lamb chops or a nice sirloin come to mind. Vegetarian options includeblue cheese souffle and farro-stuffed roasted red pepper with olive oil.

Ageability

We love to be creative and to blend wines with intention. Baby BlueBlanc walks a tightrope that delivers the best qualities of SauvignonBlanc, bright acidity and freshness, yet tempered by the addition ofViognier and Semillon in order to enhance the texture, something thatremains elusive to most Sauvignon Blanc bottled on its own.

Here the subtlest shade of pale straw radiates with a purity thatseems to first absorb and then reflect back all the light in the room.The sensory dance continues with pristine aromas of white peach, orangeblossom, honeysuckle, and lemongrass, all seamlessly integrated into afragrant and harmonious whole.

Tasting the wine reveals a burst of grapefruit, with lychee, tangerine,and rainier cherry, followed by a subtle minerality. However, whatdistinguishes this wine from other Sauvignon Blancs is its texture; allat once light yet rich in mouthfeel throughout with a lingering andrefreshing acidity.

Food Affinities

Sauvignon Blanc has a place at the table all year long. Spring andsummer come to mind first with fresh veggies, fruits, ceviche, oysters,grilled white fish, poultry and anything else light and refreshing. Andthen the wonderful truth is that fall and winter also provide ampleopportunity to celebrate this delightful varietal. The trick is to seekpurity and balance in your winter flavors, where you taste eachcomponent on the plate, such as herbed potatoes, fried chicken, wholebaked fish and the like, all hearty but well delineated. Fun to exploreall year round!

Ageability

Oh so good right away, but also built to develop for longer thanmany might expect. The 2023 Baby Blue Blanc should evolve nicely foranother 4-7 years under good cellar conditions.

Our 2022 Blue Rock Pinot Noir is a blend of Pommard, Mariafeld, Mt. Eden and 115 The vintage of 2022 was memorable for its brevity. All grapes were harvested before the end of September. Terms like "Heat Dome" and "Rolling Blackouts" reemerged in our vernacular. Even in the cool, windy Petaluma Gap, the harvest began in earnest the first week of September.

Food Affinities

Aromas of mixed berry compote, baking spices and dried cranberry are intertwined with lifted, floral nuances. The palate displays red fruit, sweet and savory notes and the trademark racy acidity of the Petaluma Gap. The finish has tremendous depth with elements of bittersweet cocoa, toasted caramel and spice.

Ageability

Elegance and the seamless texture will compliment the bright youthful fruit when enjoyed soon, but earthy, savory and ripe fruit elements will evolve with ageing for up to 10 years.

2021's growing season was one of low rainfall and a warm vintage allowing for a wine of character and ripeness. The wine has a pristine dark red and deep purple tint. The aromas celebrate the dark side of Cabernet as well, featuring ripe black plum, black currant and black cherry heightened by an intriguing note of graphite and subtle touches of black pepper and vanilla. All these elements come to a beautiful crescendo on the palate in perfect harmony and balance, with fine tannins, beautiful acidity and a dash of warm baking spices on the long and satisfying finish.

Food Affinities

This one is a slam dunk for all your red meat favorites - filets, short ribs, T-bones - grilled or broiled, with salt, pepper and olive oil, or topped with herbed red wine reduction sauces. Aged cheddar and most other hard cheeses will play along nicely as well. The balance on this wine makes it an easy pairing with all of your fall and winter favorites.

Surprisingly approachable already, this Cabernet will nonetheless age effortlessly for another 10-15 years or longer when properly cellared.
